SETTLEMENT RISK IS IMPORTANT
Settlement Risk is the risk that one party to an FX transaction makes the payment of the currency it sold, but does not receive the payment for the currency purchased.
This risk is a subset of counterparty credit risk exposures to which banks are required to apply specific credit limits, and reserve capital (known as Regulatory Capital) as required by their regulators.
Clients of banks need to manage Settlement Risk too.
